Coast Rallies Past Modesto, Reaches Championship Series
The Long Beach Coast will head to the championship series in the independent professional franchise’s inaugural season.
The Coast faced the Billings Mustangs in the first game of a three-game series on Sept. 15 at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. Subsequent games will be held in Billings, Montana.
With the game and season on the line, the Long Beach Coast defeated the Modesto Roadsters 6-3 on Saturday, Sept. 12, in a game-three match.
Benjamin Rosengard supplied the decisive hit in the fourth inning, driving in two runs with a double that broke a 2-2 tie. Cooper Vest followed with a leadoff home run in the fifth, and David Whittle added an RBI single to give the Coast a 6-2 lead.
Manager Troy Percival leaned on the bullpen to finish out the series against the Roadsters.
“Our bullpen was just so resilient, coming out, putting up zero after zero, and finally today we had enough runs for them to work with,” said Percival.
Game 1 of the championship series began Sept. 15 and was the last home game of the inaugural season for the Coast. The Billings Mustangs defeated the Long Beach Coast 12-2.
The game was tied 1-1 through six innings before Billings scored eight runs in the seventh and pulled away.
